How to Connect AdriaHost Hosting to Codex or Claude Code

Codex and Claude Code can help you create a new website, update an existing one, fix errors, improve performance, and prepare files for publishing on your AdriaHost hosting account.

The recommended workflow uses a local copy of your website and an access method supported by your hosting plan, such as SFTP or SSH. SSH access is not available with every shared hosting plan.

Before you begin

You will need:

  • An active AdriaHost hosting account
  • The Codex desktop app or Claude Code
  • A local copy of your website files
  • Your hosting access details
  • A backup of the existing website

You can find the exact server address, username, and supported connection method in your client area or request them from AdriaHost Support.

Connecting your hosting to Codex

  1. Install the Codex desktop app and sign in.

  2. Create a local copy of your website or download its existing files from the hosting server.

  3. Open the folder containing your website files in Codex.

  4. Ask Codex to inspect the project before making changes. For example:

Review this website, explain its structure, and suggest a plan for the requested changes. Do not modify anything yet.

  1. Create a backup of the website files and database before approving any changes.

  2. Describe what you want Codex to do. For example:

Optimize the homepage for mobile devices while preserving the existing page URLs, SEO titles, and contact forms.

  1. Review and test the changes locally or on a staging website.

  2. Once everything works correctly, upload the modified files to your hosting account using SFTP or another method supported by your plan.

You can also ask Codex to provide a list of all modified files before publishing them.

Connecting your hosting to Claude Code

  1. Install Claude Code and sign in.

  2. Save a local copy of your website in a separate folder.

  3. Open that folder in your terminal:

cd /path/to/your/website
  1. Start Claude Code:
claude
  1. Ask Claude Code to inspect the project and prepare a plan:

Review this project and prepare a plan for the requested changes. Do not modify any files until I approve the plan.

  1. Create a backup and then approve the required changes.

  2. Test the result locally or on a staging website.

  3. After testing, upload the modified files to your AdriaHost hosting account using SFTP or another supported connection method.

When is SSH access required?

SFTP or access through the hosting control panel is usually sufficient for editing and transferring regular website files.

SSH is required when Codex or Claude Code needs to run server commands, install packages, or configure a web server, database, Docker, or other system services.

SSH access is commonly available with VPS and dedicated servers, but it is not included with every shared hosting plan. An AI assistant can perform only the actions permitted by the access you provide.

Recommended workflow

For safer website changes, follow this process:

  1. Create a backup of the website and database.
  2. Download the website to your computer.
  3. Ask the AI assistant to inspect it and prepare a plan.
  4. Make and test the changes locally.
  5. Review the list of modified files.
  6. Publish the changes to a staging website.
  7. Update the live website only after completing your checks.

What can Codex or Claude Code help you with?

Depending on your website and available access, they can help you:

  • Create new pages or an entire website
  • Improve the mobile layout
  • Fix errors in website code
  • Optimize website speed
  • Update WordPress themes or plugins
  • Add contact or booking forms
  • Translate website content
  • Improve technical SEO
  • Configure applications and services on a VPS
  • Prepare a list of changed files before publishing

Some advanced or high-risk changes may still require professional review.

Security notice

Never enter passwords, private SSH keys, or other sensitive access details into a regular AI conversation. Do not store credentials in website files or include them in the project folder.

Use a secure credential-storage and connection method supported by your operating system and AI tool.
